Meet the PR Blogger, Student/PR

Meet the PR Blogger – with Ella Minty

Hello and welcome to my fifth(!) interview of my ‘meet the PR blogger’ series. This time with the PR brain behind the weekly #PowerAndInfluence chat and the prolific PR blogger too – Ella Minty. But (as always), before I start, lets get down to the basics.

What is the ‘meet the PR blogger’ series?

This series has been put together by yours truly to delve in to the inner workings of the PR blogging industry. PR blogging is a niche area, but an incredibly interesting one. Therefore, I am committed to finding as much out about it as I possibly can. I want to leave no stone unturned. Having blogged within the industry for over a year myself, i’m all too familiar with the quality content circulated, the brilliant connections made and the overall fun of it all. PR blogging is certainly a niche worth getting involved in and I hope this series will encourage some to do so.

I’ll be (hopefully) posting a new addition to the series once a week, with a new PR blogger in the pipeline every single time.

If you’re a PR blogger, or simply work in PR/business yourself then I couldn’t recommend connecting with every participant in this series more. Each interviewee has been chosen due to their outstanding skills and expertise in the areas of Business & PR. Alongside, of course, the quality of their blog.

So, without further ado, here’s my fifth addition of my ‘meet the PR blogger’ series with Ella Minty.

Introducing Ella

I came to connect with Ella after noticing a bit of a conversation on my timeline one evening.

It was an engaging conversation about measuring PR campaigns. Every tweet – I noticed – ended with the same hashtag: #PowerAndInfluence. After doing some digging I found out that the #PowerAndInfluence conversation was the brainchild of Ella so of course, I had to follow her. I now enjoy reading the conversation every week and even though i’ve not contributed myself yet, i’m always there reading and engaging in my own way.

Ella’s been supportive and interactive with me from the get-go really and is always there to offer a helping hand when i’ve a question to ask (be it PR related or not). Alongside being such a helpful and engaging peer, Ella is also a PR superstar. Not only does she orchestrate the #PowerAndInfluence chat, she’s also a CIPR UK Board and Council member, an ELP Co-Chair, a crisis comms trainer & advisor and oh, she’s also an outstanding blogger too.

If you want to know more about the #PowerAndInfluence chat, or if you’re a PR-boffin who’s keen to get involved then you should definitely follow Ella on Twitter. Her chat last night was on influencer marketing and featured the one and only Scott Guthrie!

Anyway, lets find out more about Ella and her dazzling PR blog (and career to match)…

The ‘meet the PR blogger’ interview with Ella

Jessica: How long have you been blogging for?

Ella: Properly – as in having my own blog – for 4 months now. I’ve been writing publicly on a variety of PR related issues, for almost 6 years.

J: What are the main things you blog about?

E: Strategic Communication, Crisis and Reputation Management, as well as Leadership.

J: Have you always been a PR blog, or was you once something else?

E: Yes and no. I blog about PR, but I also blog about business pillars such as leadership, CSR and risk.

J: Have you found that having a PR blog has been beneficial to you in the industry? (In interviews, for example…)

E: No, I haven’t. Having a PR blog has allowed me to create a platform where I can share my experience and views on certain PR and Strategic Communication aspects which, I believe, should be seriously considered by all those who choose this line of work.

J: Do you have any PR blogging inspirations? These could be people, or simple reasons that you blog.

E: Blogging means different things to different people: some do it as a way to “download” and share their thoughts, others do it to stand out or get a job, and others do it to share knowledge. I do it to share with everyone who reads my “musings” what I learned and experienced. I don’t provide my readers with tools, but techniques.

A scalpel is a tool – and only a surgeon has mastered the technique to use it.

J: Do you have any advice to prospective PR people who may be looking to set up a blog?

E: Make it count!

J: Why did you want to work within PR?

E: Because it is absolutely fascinating – gaining an insight into human behaviour, mass communication, emotional triggers and cultural differences is incredible. It is one of the very few arts and sciences out there that provides you with an inexhaustible source of learning.

J: And finally, what do you enjoy most about PR blogging?

Knowing that I may truly and genuinely help someone solve a problem or clarify a dilemma.
